NuMaRü - Utilization potential analysis of materials from deconstruction
The Institute for Anthropogenic Material Cycles (ANTS) is involved in the interdisciplinary research project NuMaRü with the development of a method to assess the financial value of demolition objects. The focus is on the processing of construction and demolition waste.
The recycling of valuable materials ensures the closing of material cycles and thus also a more efficient use of resources and the avoidance of waste. Determining the value of building materials after the use phase is therefore becoming increasingly important in the circular economy.
Suitable variables are used to identify the value of various building substances, and a case study is used to test various demolition and reprocessing scenarios. Based on their ecological and economic impacts, the different deconstruction routes and material qualities are compared. The results of life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) as well as the price development and market value of the materials considered form the basis for the development of the assessment methodology. Future investors can use the evaluation methodology as a basis for decision-making on the handling of materials in deconstruction already in the planning phase.
The project is financed by the innovation program Zukunft Bau of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction with the aim of promoting the integration of sustainable approaches to the circular economy in the construction sector.
