The search for a final repository for highly radioactive waste in Germany is underway: The best possible site is to be found by 2031 - with the involvement of the public and research. This was the point of departure for the three-day series of events entitled "Site Selection Days," which took place from June 8-10, 2022.

This year's organizer was the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH) with the teaching and research areas of Repository Safety (ELS), Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology and Geology (LIH), Geochemistry and Deposits of Petroleum and Coal (LEK), "Computational Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering" (CGRE), Neotectonics and Geo Risks (NUG), and the Energy and Mineral Resources Group (EMR).

The first two days of the event focused on technical exchange, engagement, and discussion with repository science, universities, and scientific institutes. An evening program rounded off the first day of the event and invited networking.

On the third day, speakers from the Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung (BGE) provided information on the status of the site selection process in a public section.

In 2022, the topics of the Site Days again met with lively interest among the participants and made the event a complete success.
